Have you taken your New Range Orientation yet?

Follow the 4 basic firearms safety rules.

- All firearms are loaded!
Treat and respect every firearm as if it is loaded.

- Know where your muzzle is and control it!
We do not point our muzzles at other people, ourselves, or property. Do not point your muzzle at anything you are not willing to shoot and/or destroy.

- Keep your finger off the trigger!
Keep your finger off the trigger and outside of the trigger guard until you are on target, sights on the target, and have made the decision to shoot.

- Be sure of your target!
Be sure of your target, of what is behind and around your target, of what might be in front of your target. Target awareness and proper placement is your responsibility. You are responsible for where your projectile impacts. All projectiles MUST impact an approved backstop or berm and MUST be ballistically stable when doing so. You and you alone are responsible and accountable for every round you fire from your firearm(s), no one else.

- Do not try to catch a firearm
If you drop your firearm the best thing is to just let it go and hit the ground. It is not a good idea to try and catch the firearm, to try and keep it from hitting the ground. This is one of the top ways folks accidentally shoot themselves or someone else. Modern firearms will not go off when they hit the ground.

Note, we recommend everyone use hearing and eye protection when shooting, as well as the use of an ECI (empty chamber indicator). Now some events held at RCLRC will mandate this protection. You must then follow the event's protocols. Note eye protection is required when shooting steel.

Target Heights!

Watch you target heights. Make sure your targets are at such a height that misses or rounds going through the paper are going to impact a proper impact berm or backstop. Do not bounce or skip rounds off the ground! This is especially critical on ranges 1 and 3 which have significant elevation changes on the range.

Emergency Procedures

Dial 911 and ask for the Caledonia Fire and Rescue in case of an emergency (injury, GSW, etc.)
- In case of an accidental discharge that results in an injury or gun shot wound
- Remain calm and state that there has been an accident at the range (do not say a shooting)
- Inform them of where you are on the range (which range #)
- Answer their questions, typically they have a script to follow
- Give a description of yourself
- If possible send someone to the gate to direct EMS to the accident location
- If trained to, render aide using the trauma kits or your kits and remain calm
- If possible have all other firearms secured before EMS and LE arrive
- Remain on your phone if possible until help arrives to continue to answer questions, etc.
- Follow all reasonable EMS and LE instructions when they arrive
- When EMS has arrived and takes over immediately call the club President @ 1-262-977-1114 opt 3, if there are multiple folks on scene have one of them right away call even before help arrives

Fire Emergency
- 911 and ask for Caledonia Fire
- Give location on the range, answer questions as asked
- Have someone meet them if possible at the gate

Front Gates

The gate must remain closed and locked at all times unless there is an event and there is a member acting as a gate guard. Last vehicle in/out is responsible to make sure the gate closes before driving off.

ALL members must badge in and badge out, even if there are multiple members in a single vehicle.

Any non-member guest(s) must have a member with them that is responsible for them. All guests MUST be logged in the guest log book in the club house prior to starting to shoot at any range. Bring 1-3 guests maximum at a time as it is hard to monitor more folks than that. Non-family member guests can be brought 1 or 2 times, then they should join.

All members must be ready to show their badge when asked by another member. There is no refusing to do that. Your badge belongs to the club and is given to you the member for your use only. You are not to give your badge to anyone else, family, friends, others members at the range, etc. to use period.

Cease Fire

Anyone may call a cease fire at anytime. Everyone is a range safety officer so to speak.

- Call it loudly and clearly
- Verify everyone understands this is a cease fire
- All actions open, mags out, safety on, no round in the chamber (as applicable, empty chamber a MUST!)
- Recommend the use of empty chamber indicators

Do what needs doing (target repair/reset, etc.) then make the range hot. Before making the range hot ensure you know that everyone is back and behind the firing line. Be SURE you know where everyone is, do not assume.

Some General Rules

- Do not drive or park on the grass or ranges. Stay on the gravel period.

- Clean up after yourself. That means brass, steel cases, alum cases, hulls, target materials and cardboard, etc.

- Aimed fire only, no "bump fire" is allowed.

- No incendiary ammo period.

- No 50 BMG or cartridges that exceed 9000 lb/ft energy at the muzzle.

- Range occupy flags denote the range is in use and MUST be flown when the range is in use with any firearms, etc.

- Shooting on a range takes precedent over walking your dog, walking, sitting and admiring, etc.

- No one is to walk on any of the lateral berms or impact berm at any time while the range is open period.

- Alcohol may be consumed in the club house, barn area, or picnic area. No alcohol in vehicles or on any range. Anyone consuming alcohol may not then use the ranges or be on the range when firearms are present. Anyone under the influence of alcohol or any controlled substance may not be on the ranges with firearms. Break this rule and you will be terminated.

Steel SOP

- All steel targets must be able to safely stop the projectile being fired at it with minimal deformation to the target surface

- All steel targets must be placed so that all misses allow projectile to come to rest in approved backstop

- All steel targets must be placed at a safe distance from shooter and/or other members and club property

- All steel targets must direct the majority of spall in a safe direction(down to the ground) and not cause a ricochet hazard if multiple rounds are fired at it.

- Area below target must be of appropriate makeup to absorb spall and not redirect it(so no traffic bond, concrete, steel, rocky surfaces, any hardened surface)

- Eye protection is recommended while steel is being used
- Use appropriate steel designed for shooting as a target (EX AR500)

Suggested minimum distances:

- Pistol 7 to 10 yards

- Carbine/rifle 50 yards

- Slugs 75 yards

- 22 Rimfire 7 yards

No steel Shot (or Slugs) or BB guns firing on rifle or handgun rated steel targets

Failure to comply will result in disciplinary action including possible termination from club.
